Hatching a New Name for a Historic Organization

For nearly two years, our organization discussed the "Audubon" name. We wrestled with the legacy of John James Audubon and considered hundreds of possible new names, while continuing our important work of protecting wild birds and habitat across the five boroughs. After a robust and inclusive process involving thousands of stakeholders, on June 5, 2024 our members voted to approve our new name. We are now NYC Bird Alliance.

The Naming Report, prepared for organizational members in May 2024, explains our history and the road to a new name. Download the report here or view it below.
