Javits Center Green Roof Tours

Javits Green Roof.
Join NYC Bird Alliance scientists for free, guided tours of the Javits Center green roof network. These events are part of the Nest Climate Campus conference during Climate Week NYC 2024.

At nearly 8 acres, the Javits green roof network is one of the largest in the country and functions as a remarkable ecological community. The green roofs help the fight against climate change by absorbing stormwater runoff, cutting energy needs, cleaning the air --  and supporting biodiversity! From the sedum roof to the newly installed orchard, farm, and native garden beds, Javits’s diverse green habitats support a variety of native wildlife, including 65 bird, 5 bat, and 20 bee species.

Learn more about this successful integration of green infrastructure at the Javits Center through an in-person experience led by NYC Bird Alliance scientists who have studied the ecology of the green roof since 2014. The tour will talk about the Javits Center’s pioneering bird-friendly glass, visit the rooftop Farm, Food Forest, and Pollinator Garden, and explore how these habitats support pollinators, bats, and migratory birds.

Registration for The Nest Climate Campus is required to attend this tour. Once you register for the roof tour, click here to register for a complimentary three-day pass to the Nest!
