NYC Bird Alliance is a proud participant in World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD). Every May and October, this global awareness-raising campaign celebrates the amazing journeys of migratory birds and inspires their worldwide conservation. Birders of all skill levels are welcome!
This spring, World Migratory Bird Day will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026. See below for our line-up of WMBD events across the City!

César Castillo Memorial Queens County Birdathon (5/9)
In partnership with the Queens County Bird Club, three bird outings will explore some of César Castillo's favorite bird patches. Funds will benefit programming in César's home county of Queens.

Randall's Island: Bird Bonanza (5/9)
Take flight at Randall’s Island Park’s annual Bird Bonanza, the Alliance's celebration of World Migratory Bird Day. Spend the day exploring all things feathered with hands-on crafts, lively games, educational activities, and a guided bird tour with expert Gabriel Willow.

Central Park: Wellness on the Green
Gather together for our inaugural Wellness on the Green event, rooted in movement, mindfulness, and collective care. Move your body in ways that feel joyful, grounding, and alive. Meet local organizations strengthening our community and our greenspaces. And discover how caring for Central Park and caring for each other goes hand in hand. Programs including Field Journaling, Tai Chi, and more!
